The story behind the Acts 16:17 Network

In Acts 16, the apostle Paul was beckoned by the Holy Spirit to go to Macedonia to preach to the people in that region the message of salvation.  In Philippi, a Roman colony and leading city in the region, Paul encountered a female slave.  The troubled woman was possessed by a spirit that gave her the ability to predict the future.

She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” Acts 16:17 (NIV)

Now, you may not want a crazy woman following you around day after day yelling to anyone in earshot who you are and what you're doing.  On the other hand, it would sure make it easier to get your message out.

I find a couple things interesting in this passage: the woman's demon recognized that Paul and Silas were servants of God and the demon stated in clear terms what Paul and Silas were attempting to accomplish.

I don't have a publicist that good, do you?  Maybe, like me, you've been discouraged that your creativity, writing, artistry, etc. is a waste of time.  It's not narcissistic to want to share what we are doing beyond our small circle of family and friends, especially if the goal is to bring people to Jesus.

Paul eventually became annoyed by all the attention and cast out the demon.  Most of us don't have Paul's problem.

The Acts 16:17 Network is designed for people attempting to make a difference, but are laboring in anonymity.

How it works

Do you have a well written blog no one reads... a self published novel that sits on an E-shelf somewhere... the next platinum Christian album, if only it was played in someone else's car?

The idea of the Acts 16:17 Network is to work together to let the world know the amazing things being done to the glory of God.

Who can participate?  The platform is for Christians with a product or service that needs help getting noticed by a larger audience.

Examples:

Christian musicians - new Christian album in any genre.

Christian authors - fiction and non-fiction novels, comic books, blogs

Skilled workers and entrepreneurs - your service and products even if not exclusively Christian can still be for God's glory.

The idea is for members of the network to use social media to publicize the Christian works of others.  In turn, others will return the kindness by publicizing his or her works.

There is no compulsion or intention that any member should blindly share, like, follow every other members' posts.  That would be disingenuous.  Rather, it is better if a member take a few minutes to review what they like on the network (regularly) and promote only those that they personally feel comfortable promoting.

Obviously, being generous with your time will get you noticed by the people you promote, which can benefit you as well.
